Arsenal centre-back David Luiz is "preparing to renew" his contract at the Emirates according to Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira, who insists he shares a "father-to-son" relationship with the Brazilian.
Luiz's future at the Emirates has been clouded in uncertainty in recent weeks with his contract running out at the end of June and no extension on the horizon.
The 33-year-old signed a one-year deal with the option of an extra year when he joined from Chelsea last summer for a fee in the region of £8million.
Luiz has appeared in 25 of Arsenal's 28 Premier League games, playing in every top-flight match since Mikel Arteta was appointed as manager in December.
Speaking publicly the experienced defender has declared a desire to remain in north London, having enjoyed working under Arteta.

And with the Gunners needing Luiz to take a wage cut from his £120,000-a-week salary for more incentive-based terms, Vieira says a deal is close and a two-year deal could be agreed.
Speaking to Portuguese TV, Vieira said: "I spoke to him again yesterday. We have a father-to-son relationship.
"He was in the car with his agent, Kia, preparing to renew his contract with Arsenal to sign a new one or two-year contract.
"He is someone who loves Benfica, but there is something else he is: he is a great professional and has to earn money.
"What he earns is unthinkable for Benfica to pay. If David Luiz comes to a day when he says 'I want to leave here', if he is 35 years old, in perfect condition, we will take David Luiz of course.
"If he came, it would have to be for a million, but as a father, I would say 'No, David, you’re not coming, don’t be crazy. You have to make money!'
"When the football is over, nobody goes after him. If he came today, he would have to come under these conditions, otherwise, he could not come."
Luiz's representative Joorabchian told Sky Sports on Monday: "He's very happy at Arsenal. He has an extremely good relationship with both the coach and the sporting director.
"He has good relationships all throughout the club, right up to the owner. He respects everybody.
"Arsenal had an option, which expired. We also had a pandemic [coronavirus]. So the option expired in the middle of the pandemic.
"We are all very aware of that situation and we are all trying, very slowly, to get back to this 'new normal'.

"These contract situations, these renewals, if he stays or if he goes... will all sort themselves out when we get back to some kind of 'new normal'.
"David will sit down with Arsenal before the season begins, have his conversations and they will both decide if he will stay or not soccer betting tips.
"That will come before the season starts. The chances are very high [of Luiz being at Arsenal next season]. There is no desire to leave."
